Little Heather’s Liberation
June 6, 2009
It was 20 years ago today…I stood waiting for Heather to get off the bus from first grade. Gen was two years old and waiting with me at the bottom of the hill. The thought that went through my head back then was something like, ‘wow, she’ll have 20 more years of schooling before she’s out of college.’ I sighed a big sigh. The time between that breath and this seems like it raced past like water over Niagra Falls! Letting go of being the mother of young daughters has been as much a process in years, hours, minutes as menopause…with all the emotional, physical, psychic, and spiritual implications. Ritual is called for. Thank Goddess it’s happening for her.

The Flower Goddess: Celebration, ritual, myth mixes with blood, sweat and tears -- motherhood coming, going, returning, departing, in no linear order but in gestures and hugs and fleeting moments in between homework and flying out the door for freedom and adventures. My love for my daughters is and has been the greatest love of all for me...and they are so beautiful. So deeply beautiful people. Gratitude for life fills my afternoon.

Another blessing to have her complete her formal education at Evergreen. Life education will continue without stop. May she continue to grow and blossom like the flowering goddess which she is. BTW, I carved a Flowering Goddess, back when I lived on Bainbridge. She gives birth to all the arts and amorous love.
